Emotions at Work

Hey..feels nice to be back to writing after a month and a half…… Well, it seemed to be almost a year here at IMT…may be coz of so many happenings in such a short duration or coz of the initial teething problems which seemed to be never ending. It has been a roller-coaster ride till now. I started with a bumpy ride in the beginning. Life seemed to be hell. Here I was in the midst of all non-familiar faces, didn’t have much to do apart from sleeping through yoga classes, orientation sessions and introductory classes. I was in no position to know where I was directed to and what I was doing in such a place. It seemed one has to compete for everything- right from reserving your place in committees to as trivial a issue as getting food in the mess. It seemed there was no one for you, you just have to know everybody around you to create a good impression on others so that you can work with them in teams. All the events seemed to be part of a drama, produced and directed by you, with the lead actor being you. I was reminded of this book based on transactional analysis named “games people play” which talks about the ulterior motives of people behind each of their demeanour and action. But then that’s human nature. Isn’t it??
Well, if I think about my value addition, I would consider it significant enough. I was this simpleton who was too focused into academics. I am amongst those confused lot of people who don’t know what exactly they want to do in life and what they are capable of doing. Sometimes they follow the herd mentality and sometimes in an attempt to stand out, do something that they think is quite unusual but then they realize that you already have a crowd to give you a tough competition. I think it’s better to compete with yourself than with others…atleast you don’t feel bad after losing!!
Oh..back to the value addition thing…yes, quite a lot! I have had some of the most enriching experiences. I have spent nights making posters and practicing for skit when I had a quiz to tackle the next day, stayed awake the entire night gossiping, been audience to drunkards trying to make sense out of their “nonsensical” talks, learnt how watching porn is an unlaid rule for adolescent boys that they have to abide by. The biggest learning is to know about different personalities and their different ideologies in life. I am sure I am going to have great fun knowing the people around me in greater detail….
