Dreamz Unknown, Wandering Alone
The never-ending dreams will remain within me forever. They grow rapidly and intensely. Wherever I go, they take me into a virtual world and compel me to live there. I get traversed into this land of unlimited possibilities. I feel the power within to conquer the world. I develop immense confidence to fuel my aspirations. I feel free to do whatever I want, rising beyond all limitations. However, I keep falling into this trap of monotony that throws me back to the so-called real world.
Am reading Freud’s ‘Interpretation of Dreams’ these days. Quite a phenomenal book! According to the author, dreams are a medium of wish fulfillment and have a definite purpose. Based on his patients’ clinical case history, he has identified a logical way to interpret dreams and to trace the ulterior motive behind them. However, complications arise when the dreams turn abstract. This happens because these desires are deeply sown into the minds and hence come out in weird forms. Also, there can be more than one way of interpreting one dream.
There have been diametrically opposite views as well from other psychiatrists and psychologists who think that dreams are just random thoughts and are mere psychological reactions. But Freud opposes them all through clinical evidence. He exemplifies his theory through his own dream. Firstly, in order to capture the dream accurately, he prefers writing down the dream so that not even a single thought is missed out. Also, to make it understandable for the reader, he chooses to trail only certain thought streams instead of all. After nailing down the basic theme, he tries making sense of each and every iota of his thought process. Like, in his case the basic dream was about one of his patients who had challenged his treatment saying that she had developed some side-effects because of the prescribed medicines. The dream was in response to this incident. In the dream, he blames some other friend of his who was treating the same patient for some other ailment. It’s amazing how he brings his patient, her divorcee relative, his friend (whom he doesn’t like), some flower, and a lot more recent happenings and discussions in his life.
Well, I have decided to quit reading this book now. I guess its impacting my psychology in some weird way. One night I found myself analyzing my dream instantly after waking up from that dream. This was a bit scary. And my dreams are also getting more and more dreadful and complicated. So, bought some R.K.Narayan and Ruskind Bond books for me to get out of the deep impact!
