Pleasurable Temptations

What would a human be without seeking pleasures and falling for temptations in life. They say the secret of happiness is to stay away from these two aforementioned phenomenon, but would there be a life without these? Don't we live to fulfill our desires? Aren't these the driving forces for us to keep running and motivated?

I wonder at times as to what is the true purpose of my life and would I ever be able to find out about it. But is it about the journey or the destination? I think and realize it is the journey that I can enjoy and enrich with various experiences rather than worry about the uncertain destination. So while enjoying this journey of life, is it wrong to give in to temptations? To pleasure self is to cater to one's emotional needs which is important for emotional and psychological well being. Isn't it just a statement of self expression of an emotion like love or attraction or an emotional connect? What is so wrong about it?

Well, at this juncture, our morals and principles are dying to get introduced. Super Ego enters the picture to control Id. We create checks and bounds to keep ourselves from turning into a rebel who acts only to satisfy self, without any concern for others or society in general. It tells us that we do not live in isolation and to be socially accepted by others we need to follow some basic rules. Else we would not get any social security and would have to hunt alone for survival.

Between the two extremes of Id and Super Ego, Ego takes birth for us to take a middle path and strike a balance. So, Ego at times allows Id to take over with child-like curiosity and stubbornness to satisfy needs. While at other times, Ego supports Super Ego to remind oneself as to what should be the ideal behavior in a situation which for society's good. Ego is realistic and reasonable and has the final say in 90% of the cases.

Well, they say leave Ego behind when seeking knowledge and inner peace but the truth is letting Ego conquer is more practical. Living with Ego is simpler than anything else!
