Nishabd - a new perspective...
Nishabd (the latest Amitabh movie) did focus on some of the unspoken desires and feelings of a human when he is in his last stage of life. The idea of a 6o yr old man falling in love with an 18 yr old girl would obviously raise many eyebrows but then it is important to understand the logic behind it. As Amitabh expresses his point of view in the movie, he is attracted not only physically to the girl but he re-discovers his reason for living through her. She arouses the child within him and ignites the spirit to live for his passion.
And this is very true. All of us become so engrossed in our routine life of earning, and household chores that we completely forget to give ourselves some time. As is shown in the movie, Revathi (Amitabh's wife) gives up her dancing for her family and starts living just for her family. She spends almost all her time in either her kitchen or in getting the work done from her deaf servant. The monotony of life is clearly portrayed through her. On the other hand, Amitabh who is a creative photographer, although gets acclaim world-over for his work, doesn't get appreciation in his own family. His daughter considers him abnormal and wife is least bothered about what he does. But he cares for them (not sure if he loves his wife!)
And here comes a girl ,who is very unusual and mature for her age, and takes a lot of interest in Amitabh's passion. Her daring attitude, courage, and stubbornness impresses Amitabh. Both of them find an admirer of their respective talents in each other.
But the problem arises when instead of becoming good friends they give this feeling another form. The girl (Jia) wants to lead her life with Amitabh which is prctically not possible. She doesn't even accept that it is a problem whereas Amitabh knows it for sure. But both them can't control their feelings for each other. Amitabh finally takes a stand and asks Jia to leave. This shatters Jia and she takes refuge in Aftab(her old lover). But Amitabh has nowhere to go now. His family disowns him and they lose respect for him. Jia also hates him for his decision.
Finding no reason to live, he decides to commit suicide but then Jia's memories don't even let him die in peace. So, he is left with her fond memories to spend the remaining days of his life.
Sad ending, but this had to be the conclusion of this thought provoking story. The story clearly highlights the loneliness and isolated lives of the elderly people.
The thought we are left with is that we should not forget that there lies a child in the elderly people who doesn't get a chance to come out. And so they have to restrain all their desires to fit into the ideal role of an experienced and mature individual.
Is it fair to them??
